A gentle listening programme designed to support nervous system regulation, rest and recovery
The Rest and Restore Protocol™ (RRP) is a coach-supported listening programme developed by Unyte Health. It uses specially processed music designed to work with the body’s natural physiological rhythms and support the autonomic nervous system in moving towards greater regulation, balance and restoration.

When your nervous system has spent a long time responding to stress, it can be difficult to truly switch off. You may find yourself feeling tense, anxious, overwhelmed or constantly “on”, or at other times exhausted, shut down or disconnected.
One of the unusual things about RRP is that you don’t have to actively do anything. There are no breathing exercises to follow and no particular state you need to achieve. You simply listen and allow the experience to unfold.
Why nervous system regulation matters
Your autonomic nervous system is constantly responding to information from within your body, from your surroundings and from other people. Polyvagal Theory describes this unconscious process as neuroception. When your nervous system detects sufficient safety, it becomes easier to rest, connect with other people, think clearly and respond flexibly to what is happening around you.
Stress, trauma and prolonged periods of feeling unsafe or overwhelmed can make these protective responses more persistent. You might recognise this as anxiety, irritability, difficulty relaxing, poor sleep, problems concentrating or feeling disconnected from yourself or other people.
RRP is designed to provide the nervous system with cues of safety through sound, supporting the body’s own capacity for regulation rather than asking you to consciously control it.
What could RRP help with?
People consider RRP for many different reasons. Unyte identifies potential support areas including stress and anxiety, sleep, trauma-related difficulties. Chronic pain and fatigue, digestive difficulties and general nervous system regulation are also considered. This includes rest and restore protocol.
The RRP may support better sleep by helping the nervous system move into a more restful and restorative state. Some people find it easier to fall asleep, stay asleep or experience deeper sleep as they progress through the programme.
What does RRP involve?
The RRP is a five-hour listening programme divided into ten 30-minute tracks, designed to be listened to on alternate days over 20 days. The programme progresses gradually, with the acoustic features becoming more complex as you move through the tracks.
Your first listening session will take place with me, either in person or online. This gives us an opportunity to see how your nervous system responds and to decide how best to proceed. After this, you may be able to listen independently at home, with ongoing support and monitoring from me.
For many people, RRP can be followed in 30-minute sessions with at least one day between listening sessions. However, the programme is not one-size-fits-all. Sessions can be shortened, spaced further apart, paused, or earlier tracks repeated if a gentler pace is more appropriate.
